Dialogue

Dialogue     The primary focus of this animation was meant to be on the character and how they can deliver lines from some sort of dialogue. In honor of one of my all time favorite tv shows I almost immediately thought of the Office and Michael Scott, because of his thousands of lines to pick from. I believed that I could find humor in this sound. I was more focused on making sure that the mouth was synced up with the audio than spending crazy amounts of time worrying about creating a beautiful character. However, I think we can all relate with the horror that this character has faced in the animation above.
Walk Cycle       This is another one of those animations that I've done a dozen times in the past, however those have always been inside a 3D program which is a totally different mindset artistically speaking. This animation is quite satisfying though because of the perfect loop, it appears that he's walking forever. I wish that I could've focused more on the head but when I tried to add a face it felt too cluttered and I struggled with getting the features to appear solid. I'm quite proud of the body in this character though and how it stays nearly the same size the entire animation. This is the first 2D animation I've done where I feel that the character is a solid piece in the environment.
Weight       Weight is about exactly that, showing weight in a 2D space. This can actually be quite hard when you're making up physics in the program as you go. I'm proud of this animation because the character I drew, even though it's quite basic, looks far better than those I've made in the past for more than one frame. I had fun showing struggle in a character with no muscles, I accomplished this by trying to show the limbs wiggle with effort.

Flour Sack Animation

Flour Sack Animation     This animation is all about taking last week's piece and putting it into practice. This was fun to try and take the ideas I had for the flour sack and bring it to life. I wanted to go with a karate master flour sack initially because I thought that it would be quite fun having it fly around doing some insane kicks and punches. But I was facing some troubles with having the flour sack stretch and not seem too distorted. This animation was quite enjoyable, but looking back at it I wish that I would have been more successful with making the "limbs" more solid. They seem a little flimsy for the moves that the body is doing. But overall this was a good project and a great first "real" 2D animation that wasn't basic geometry.

Flour Sack Gestures

Flour Sack Poses            This project was more of an intro to the next project than a standalone. However, with this week we were expected to get more familiar with thinking about a single item, object or person in the round. We were tasked with drawing a flour sack, partially because their simplicity and how they can represent a bipedal figure in certain poses. This practice was interesting because I really had to think about which poses are obtainable for this character, because there's only so much space that the Flour Sack can squash and stretch to. This was also a good exercise for myself to get familiar with the wacom tablet and drawing inside of Toon Boom.
Platform Pendulum     This animation was another great exercise to get myself familiar used to the software that we are using in class. This time I faced some of the same issues as the bouncing ball, you can see the ball at the bottom of the pendulum changing sizes from the beginning. However, I did learn that you can have a mix of drawn shapes, and pre-built shapes using the software. I can see this saving lots of time while doing animation, instead of trying to draw a perfect rectangle a few dozen times, you can copy and paste. However, that could be an issue if you are drawing something more organic like a person, or clothing.

Bouncing Ball

Bouncing Ball      The Bouncing Ball animation is a fantastic place for every animator to begin. It is one of the most simple animations to use nearly all of the principles of animation. You can see Squash and Stretch, Anticipation, Arc, Timing, Exaggeration and Solid Drawing. I remember being quite happy with this simple animation, I've always done 3D animations in the past and 2D truly seemed so foreign to me. It was nice to worry about 2 axis instead of 3 but I did find that it's much more challenging to try and maintain a solid shape that doesn't grow throughout the animation.
